Raja Rahman
A prize-winning graduate of The Juilliard School, Canadian pianist Raja Rahman has performed internationally with such distinguished musicians as Sir Georg Solti, Valery Gergiev, and Iona Brown. Mr. Rahman’s career has taken him around the world as both a soloist and chamber musician. His collaborators have included cellist Matt Haimovitz, the string quartet ETHEL, and members of the Juilliard String Quartet and San Francisco Symphony. While still a student at Juilliard, he made his debut at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, followed shortly thereafter by his Lincoln Center debut at Alice Tully Hall. After their first performance together in Germany, Sir Georg Solti became an ardent supporter of Mr. Rahman and praised him as “a first-class musician.”
His principal teachers have included Seymour Lipkin, Jerome Lowenthal, Lev Vlassenko, and Byron Janis. He has appeared at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, and other notable festivals, and is regularly invited to perform and present masterclasses throughout the United States and abroad.
Mr. Rahman began his teaching career at The Juilliard School’s Music Advancement Program. He later taught at Indiana University for two years while pursuing doctoral studies in music. In recognition of his contributions to the cultural life of his adopted hometown, he received an official proclamation from the City of Las Vegas in April 2008. After serving for four years as President of Nevada School of the Arts, he now serves as President of Consortium at Symphony Park, leading the development of a Performing Arts Center in the cultural heart of Las Vegas.
Following a decidedly unconventional artistic path, Mr. Rahman is also one half of Jarrett & Raja, a pianist-and-magician duo that has toured extensively and appeared on television programs including America’s Got Talent, Shark Tank, and Masters of Illusion. In 2018, he made his Moscow Conservatory concert debut. During the pandemic, he participated in virtual performance projects with organizations including Music at the Mission in San Francisco and The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Balcony Bar series.
Mr. Rahman continues to perform at venues including The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, UNLV’s Doc Rando Recital Hall, and concert halls throughout the world.
