About DJ Smallman - Head, Furtados Piano Technology Division

 Hailing from the UK, D J Smallman is a piano technician with 40 years of experience and extensive knowledge of all aspects of the piano trade.

Having completed an intensive three year apprenticeship at Whitwams Music in Winchester, England, he went on to work for some of the biggest names in the business. He was senior technician with Markson Pianos Ltd and Jaques Samuel Pianos of London. He has also been the right hand man to Steinway technician Peter Salisbury, specialising in full restoration techniques, later becoming an accredited technician at the Bechstein London Workshop.

D J then expanded his knowledge by working in the piano trade in California and Israel, before establishing himself as an independent expert, running his own business, with many professional and celebrity clients including: Howard Shelley, Anthony Rolfe Johnson, Sir Richard Hickox, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Garrick Ohlsson, Prime Minister Tony Blair, football legend David Beckham, and Oscar winning composer Paul Ebworth. He is in his prime when rebuilding quality, mainly handmade instruments from the Belle Epoch era to vintage models, or servicing/regulating such caliber instruments to his heart’s content, to please the pianist and audience alike.

D J is presently Head of the Piano Technology Division at Furtados Music, India’s leading musical instruments and piano retailer, and is well versed in the subject of Steinway Pianos. He has the confidence and skills to carry out the uncompromising strict regulations Steinway expects from re-builders.
