Biography

R. Excelicia Cunville is best known for her talent to bring together people of different cultures and backgrounds and to train and inspire them to sing in the highest level of spiritual harmony. She was conductor of the Halcyon Chorus at a Christmas programme, after which she co-founded the Madrigale Internationale (MI) in Mumbai. MI is a choir that featured singers from all over India as well as Thailand, Africa and the United States of America.

“The dancing conductor” was a fitting description bestowed upon R. Excelicia Cunville by the late actress/ musician Leela Naidu after she attended a concert at the St. Thomas Cathedral, Mumbai.

She led the Madrigale Internationale choir for several concerts and also established her credibility as a composer. She received appreciation for her compositions from the choir as well as the audience. She also composed songs for a London-based teleplay, segments of which were showcased live in March 2014.

R. Excelicia Cunville, whose voice ranges from contralto to soprano was invited to sing at the Zimriya Festival in Jerusalem, and to found and conduct the choir at Christ Church, Amsterdam.

She has also sung solo in India, Thailand, the Netherlands, France and Germany, highlights being a concert at the India International Centre, New Delhi (2012) that was well-received. Then performed with the Cochin Chamber Orchestra in Kerala (January 2015), and solo concerts in Paris and Berlin (April 2015), and in London (October 2015). She again performed a solo concert at St Martin-in-the-Fields, London (September 2016), followed by concerts at the India Habitat Centre and Kamani Auditorium, Delhi, as part of the Delhi International Arts Festival where she not only sang, but also accompanied herself on the piano.

At the piano, she has performed for audiences of different nationalities including accompanying soloists and groups, as well as playing for operettas.

Incidentally, she was also a member of the Anglo-American Theatre Group of The Hague, the Netherlands; was chosen as one of the winners of an international poetry-writing competition in 2014; has written two books; and has performed as a child artist in a film. She is a certified teacher of English as a foreign language. And all this, besides her teaching music, is evident from today's performance by her students.
