“I was lucky enough to grow up with a Steinway piano, and to this day it is always my preference. Each instrument has a soul, and myriad colors to explore. From baroque treasures to the latest new music, it is my greatest pleasure to play a Steinway, a name which brings me equal parts comfort, confidence and excitement. ”

Daniel Schlosberg

Daniel Schlosberg leads a kaleidoscopic musical life. With the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, he has appeared on numerous chamber music and new music concerts, and was a featured soloist in subscription performances of Messiaen’s “Trois Petites Liturgies”, for which John von Rhein in the Chicago Tribune wrote: “Daniel Schlosberg played the daunting piano part splendidly”; and Lawrence A. Johnson of the Chicago Classical Review wrote of “a prominent, challenging piano part, played here with great fire and conviction by Daniel Schlosberg in a notable CSO debut.” He is also a frequent pre-concert lecturer at the CSO, and has adjudicated its young artist concerto competition. He has a passion for contemporary music, collaborating frequently with Eighth Blackbird and Third Coast Percussion. He also gave the world premiere of Augusta Read Thomas’s “Starlight Ribbons” for solo piano and the US premiere of Kaija Saariaho’s Calices for violin and piano. He has recorded for the Albany, Bridge, Centaur, New World, Nimbus, Jacaranda and Permelia labels. His latest solo release is “Gaul Me Maybe: French Baroque Keyboard Music.” He also has a keen interest in art song; he was on staff at Ravinia’s Steans Institute vocal program, and he is the director of the Baltimore Lieder Weekend, held each October. He also has a longstanding duo with Grammy-nominated soprano, Laura Strickling. They are set to release a disc of New American Song on the bright shiny things label in February 2023. Other recent projects include curating a Stanley Walden 90th Birthday Portrait Concert at Bargemusic (including 4-hands with Gilbert Kalish), Mahler/Zemlinsky: Symphony No 6 (arr. 4-hands) with Inna Faliks at Ravinia and the National Gallery of Art, DC. Since 2005 he has been on faculty at the University of Notre Dame, where he is also serves as advisor to the Table Tennis Club.
